Looking to start a new career in the construction industry or boost your home improvement skills? The Adults Level 1 Introduction to Painting & Decorating is a practical, beginner-friendly course designed specifically for adults with little or no experience in the trade.

Delivered part-time over 25 weeks, this evening course provides a hands-on introduction to the key skills, tools, and techniques used by professional painters and decorators. You’ll learn how to safely use tools, prepare surfaces, apply paint and wallpaper, and explore decorative effects — all while working in a supportive learning environment.

Whether you’re considering a career change or simply want to improve your DIY confidence, this course offers a solid foundation for progression into further training or entry-level work in the painting and decorating sector.

No formal requirements but a keen interest in the construction industry and basic numeracy and literacy skills.

Modules include:

  • Introduction to Health and Safety

  • Safe Use of Hand Tools

  • Surface Preparation for Decoration

  • Applying Paint by Brush and Roller

  • Applying Wallpaper

  • Creating Decorative Effects
