This Level 2 Extended Certificate in Performing Arts is a one-year full-time course that offers you the opportunity to cover the practical and theoretical areas of dance and drama. If you are passionate about the arts and enjoy dance, drama, performing and music, then this could be the course for you. It is an excellent starting point for those who have ambitions to pursue careers within the Performing Arts sector.

The nature of the course demands total commitment and high levels of energy from students. You will develop your skills as an actor, singer, dancer or musical theatre performer and take part in two showcases throughout the year to celebrate your work.

If you are passionate about the arts and enjoy performing, then this could be the course for you.

  • You’ll need four or more GCSEs at Grade 3/E or above
  • Or you’ll need to have successfully completed the Level 1 Diploma or equivalent

All prospective students will be invited to attend an audition workshop before being offered a place.

Functional Skills will also form an important part of your course. They are the skills we use in all aspects of our study, work and everyday life. When you start the course, your tutor will discuss which Functional Skills are the most appropriate for you.

  • Take part in projects with the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company
  • Take part in public performances
  • Work as Front of House staff for events in the theatre

When you’re not studying, there’s a wide range of enrichment activities to get involved in – perfect for making new friends, building confidence, and gaining experiences that will boost your CV or university application.

Through the Student Union and college committees, you can take part in everything from sports teams, enterprise and volunteering projects to fundraising campaigns and even the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

There’s something for everyone – from joining a debating society, to attending inclusive cultural events and festivals, or enjoying one of our regular film nights and theatre trips.

You’ll learn through a mix of fun and practical activities like drama workshops, putting on performances, going to see live theatre, classwork, and working on your own projects.

There are two assessments set by the exam board, which you’ll complete during the course.

The rest of the course is assessed through assignments you complete as you go along – these could be performances, written work, or creative projects. For each assignment, you’ll be graded with a Pass, Merit, or Distinction, depending on how well you meet the criteria.

To pass each unit, you need to get at least a Pass for every part of it. To get the full qualification at the end of the course, you’ll need to pass all the units.

A few pieces of your work will also be checked by the exam board to make sure everything meets the national standard.
