This Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care qualification provides an ideal taster for learners who may be new to the sector and have previously studied at Level 2. It is accessible to learners aged 19+ who may want to understand more about working in health and social care. It aims to introduce some basic concepts of caring and preparation for employment in the sector.

To apply for this Level 3 NCFE Certificate in Preparing to Work in Health and Social Care, you will need:

  • English GCSE at grade 4 (or Level 2 Functional Skills)
  • Maths GCSE at grade 3 (or Level 1 Functional Skills)
  • Ideally a relevant Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care

The course aims to introduce knowledge around the following areas relating to working in adult social care:

• Communication
• Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
• Personal Development
• Role of the Social Care Worker
• Handling Information
• Health and Safety
• Safeguarding
• Duty of Care
• Person-Centred Approaches.

Learners will be expected to attend classroom learning one day per week with one day independent study. Learners may be asked to come in for additional study skills and supported teaching.

You will be assessed for competency through written assignments set by the tutor, based on content delivered in the classroom.

Grading system: The qualification will be ‘achieved’ or ‘not yet achieved’ and all the assessment criteria for all nine units must be achieved. If any criteria are not achieved on first submission, there is an opportunity to make a resubmission with tutor feedback.

It is anticipated that learners who achieve the Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care will progress to the Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care*.

*This is subject to suitable employment and experience within the sector. Specific information, advice and guidance will be provided to learners by their assigned personal tutor.
