Delivered in collaboration with the University of Wolverhampton, this industry-focused programme is designed to equip aspiring coaches with the essential knowledge, skills and practical experience required to thrive in diverse coaching environments.
The Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching is a full-time two-year comprehensive course designed to provide you with a deeper understanding of areas such as sports psychology, fitness training, anatomy, and inclusive practice. This programme is ideal if you want to become a qualified sports coach working in schools, clubs, or community settings; work in sports development, helping to increase participation and engagement in sport; progress into PE teaching via top-up degrees and PGCE routes.
The course is aimed at:
- people who have completed a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport, A Levels (preferably including PE or Biology) or a Level 3 apprenticeships in sport or fitness
- aspiring sports coaches who want to develop technical and pedagogical coaching skills, and gain experience working with children, youth, or adult participants in various settings
- adults looking for a career change in the sports or fitness industry, especially if they already have informal experience coaching or volunteering in sport
- people currently in assistant roles (e.g. teaching assistants in PE, youth sports leaders) who want to gain a formal qualification and progress in their careers
- learners who plan to top up to a full BSc (Hons) degree after completing the foundation course
