T Level Engineering students visit hydraPower dynamics Ltd.

Our second-year T Level Engineering students had an exceptional opportunity to visit hydraPower dynamics Ltd., a prominent leader in the Engineering and Manufacturing industry. The visit began with a warm welcome from Sonia Smalling, HR Business Partner, followed by an engaging introduction from Patrick Browne, Managing Director. Patrick shared an insightful overview of the company, showcasing its global contributions to cutting-edge technologies and innovation.

Accompanied by their lecturers, Efosa Osaghae and Steven Davies, along with Sanjiv Parmar, Assistant Principal, and Natalie Gazey T Level Coordinator, the students gained invaluable exposure during this immersive and educational experience.

Highlights of the visit:

Industry exposure:

Students had the opportunity to witness firsthand how theoretical concepts like fluid dynamics, CAD, and 3D printing are translated into practical applications within an industrial setting. The visit provided an overview of company’s systems, highlighting the intricacies of their design, operation, and maintenance at HydraPower dynamics. This immersive experience demonstrated the seamless integration of classroom learning into real-world engineering practices.

Networking opportunities:

By engaging with key professionals such as Patrick Browne, Sonia Smalling, and other staff members, students were able to form meaningful connections that could lead to placement opportunities, work experience, and even future employment. These interactions not only broadened their professional network but also provided insights into the dynamics of working in a cutting-edge engineering environment.

Career guidance:

Through expert advice from industry leaders Patrick Browne and Sonia Smalling, students gained a clear understanding of the qualifications, skills, and experience required to excel in the engineering sector. Additionally, they were exposed to various career pathways within the company, including design engineering, Quality management, and production operations, offering a broader perspective on potential career trajectories.

Inspiration and motivation:

A highlight of the visit was a Q&A session with three Sandwell College alumni who had previously completed T Level industry placements at HydraPower dynamics and were now thriving in full-time roles at the company. These success stories served as a powerful source of inspiration for current students, showcasing the tangible opportunities available through hard work and industry engagement.

Collaboration and Innovation:

The visit sparked ideas for academic research, Guest speakers and potential collaborations between students and HydraPower dynamics, encouraging innovation and exploration of new solutions.

Looking ahead:

The visit also opened doors for students to apply for industry placements at HydraPower dynamics. We are excited to see how our next cohort of students will leverage this unique opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone at HydraPower dynamics for hosting such an engaging and inspiring day. This experience offered our students a remarkable insight into the engineering industry and its potential to shape their futures.
