Sports Coaching and Sports Development is a rapidly growing specialism within the sports industry, thanks largely to the additional investment and increased awareness in recent years. The course is designed for students who are preparing for future employment in the Sports industry, particularly in Coaching Development. Due to its multi-disciplinary approach, it also offers an opportunity to explore a number of disciplines within the Leisure industry.
You will need 64 UCAS Points or MPP Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport/Sport Exercise Science, plus five GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) that should include a form of Mathematics and English. All applicants will be invited to interview.
The HND adopts a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of Sports Coaching and Development and focuses on the theoretical and practical aspects of Sports Coaching, the organisation and structure of Sports Development, as well as the important role played by Sports Science and Fitness Training.
In addition, the HND in Sports Coaching and Development qualification develops students’ personal skills enabling them to become independent learners who can progress on to the final stages of a degree course and employment.
HNC Year 1 – Employability Skills and Work Experience, Training and Fitness for Sport and Exercise, Evolution of Sports Development, Applied Sports Coaching, Physical Activity, Lifestyle and Wellbeing, The Sport and Active Leisure Industry, Sport and Exercise Massage.
HND Year 2 – Managing Sports Development, Research Project, Sport and Exercise Rehabilitation, Field Based Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise, Events Management in Sport and Leisure, Analysis of Sports Performance, Principles of Sports Coaching, Sports Coaching.
You will carry out your own practical research in fully equipped sports science laboratories. You will also have the opportunity to experience top level coaching first-hand with trips to St George’s Park, and overseas in Barcelona to see how the Olympic Games has impacted.
On completion of the HND, students can enrol on the final year of a BA or BSc programme at universities such as Gloucestershire, Worcester, Newman and Wolverhampton.
