CertEd/PGCE

Diploma

Awarded by Wolverhampton University

Who is this course for?

This Certificate in Education (CertEd) or Professional Graduate Certificate in Education, endorsed by the University of Wolverhampton, is aimed at appropriately qualified practising teachers. This innovative and challenging course offers you training geared towards the post-compulsory sector, offering a nationally-recognised award endorsed by LSIS. The generic route is for existing PCE practitioners from any subject area.

Generic route applicants should:

  • be employed (either voluntary or paid) and undertaking teaching duties in an education institution aimed at post-16 learning – e.g. college, training provider, adult education centre (120 hours are required)
  • hold an appropriate academic or vocational qualification relevant to their subject specialism (a Level 3 qualification in any subject, ideally in the subject area that you want to teach, but experience is taken into account)

Year 1 studies will focus on professional practice and will explore topics such as planning and supporting learning in post-compulsory education.

During your second year you will gain a deeper understanding of curriculum development in an institutional context, explore ways of utilising e-learning materials and undertake further professional practice.

Modules relate to the specified skills curricula that meet LSIS requirements.

This course will enable students to draw upon personal experiences and those of fellow participants – relating assignments to professional practice.

Following the CertEd programme, you may be able to use your credits towards a first degree, or (for those already holding a degree) even work towards a Masters-level qualification in the field of education.

Careers within this sector can range from class teaching, student support, and information learning technology development, to programme direction and college management.

If you have a degree and gain QTLS you can go and teach in Secondary Schools.
