This is the College’s first ever full scale musical theatre production!
A beloved Broadway gem, The Wiz infuses L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz with a dazzling mix of rock, gospel, and soul music. This timeless tale of Dorothy’s adventures through the Land of Oz is a fun, family-friendly, modern musical. It was adapted into a film version featuring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross and, more recently, a live televised production, featuring Mary J Blige, Queen Latifah and Ne-Yo.
Sandwell College Musical Theatre Company’s production sees a young cast of performers retell the story in a relevant, contemporary setting supported by a live professional band under the direction of Michelle King and choreography by Craig Worrall. Full of brains, heart and courage, we explore themes of friendship, resilience, self-belief and what makes a home through song, dance, comedy, poignancy and a whole lot of sass!
