Course requirements

Level 2 Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 or above.

The T Level Onsite Construction Painting & Decorating qualification will help learners gain an understanding of the onsite construction industry and the sector, and learners will cover topics such as health and safety, construction science principles and sustainability in the construction industry. Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry, and where possible, will also provide work placements.

You will develop a general understanding of construction, including:

  • Health and safety
  • The science behind building design, surveying and planning
  • Making accurate and appropriate measurements
  • Construction methods
  • Building regulations and standards
  • Data management and information standards in construction
  • Relationship management and customer service
  • How the Internet of Things (IoT) impacts construction
  • Digital engineering techniques
  • Mathematical techniques to solve construction problems
  • Construction design principles and processes
  • The construction industry and its role in the economy
  • Sustainability and the environmental impact of construction
  • Business, commerce and corporate social responsibility
  • Theory and practical applications of a painter and decorator

During the year, three weeks are set aside purely for the purpose of enrichment. In addition to this, trips related to the core programme may be organised.

Dedicated employer master classes and guest speakers develop your behaviours to a wider understanding of the world of placement.

There is usually no or minimal cost for any of these activities.

This T Level Onsite Construction Painting and Decorating course will assess students through:

  • Work placement for 315 hours
  • Technical qualification 80% (external assessment 2 core exams and ESP set by Pearson Edexcel)

This qualification will primarily prepare students to move into a skilled job but can also lead to further technical qualifications, higher apprenticeships or a degree course. Students who complete a T Level in Onsite Construction Painting and Decorating will be able to progress to the Painting and Decorating Standard Apprenticeship.
