WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

An operational/departmental manager is generally someone who is able to manage teams and/or projects, and has responsibility for planning, delivering and achieving departmental goals and objectives. They are accountable to a more senior manager, head of department or small business owner, and are responsible for the operational and/or policy delivery of the organisation’s strategy. This apprenticeship has been designed to provide access to development opportunities for individuals who are at the start of their career in leadership and management. It is also appropriate for those already in management roles who may already have developed practical experience, but who wish to develop their theoretical understanding of management skills.

FORMAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The entry requirements for this apprenticeship will be decided by each employer, but may typically be five GCSEs at Grade 4/C or higher. You must have achieved your GCSE Maths and English with a Grade 4/C or higher, or Functional Skills at Level 2. You will be required to be working in a supervisory role as you will be completing a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management and developing a portfolio of evidence from the work place.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?

During this three-year Apprenticeship you will be taken through the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to be an operational/departmental manager, which will include:

• Finance
• Leading and Managing People
• Building Relationships
• Communication
• Management of Self
• Decision Making

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

All learners will have a designated trainer and assessor and will undertake an End Point Assessment, which will involve the following:
• Assessment of knowledge through a test using scenarios, questions and responses
• Assessment of competency through a competency based interview
• Assessment of portfolio of evidence
• Presentation on work based project with Question and Answer session
• Continuing Professional Development Log reviewed and professional discussion/question and answer session
You will also need to have achieved the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management.

WHERE CAN I GO NEXT?

On completion, apprentices may choose to register as a Full member with the Institute of Leadership & Management, to support their professional career development and progression.
