You’ll need five GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above, including Maths, English and Science.
The Diploma takes one academic year to complete, and the Extended Diploma takes two academic years to complete. You will study units in the areas of anatomy, psychology, sociology and practice. There is a placement element of the course requiring 30 hours of placement in the first year and 100 hours in the second year. Therefore any student who wishes to continue to employment after this qualification would be well placed to do so. There is a high science element in this course and learners will gain an excellent foundation for further study in the health sector.
We are dedicated to enriching your experience here at Sandwell College with a range of opportunities. We have strong links with local employers including hospitals and local authorities, who frequently visit the college to provide learners with a unique insight into careers in the sector. We also visit settings with learners to give them a first-hand experience of life working in health and social care. We take learners to the Care Show at Birmingham NEC every year as well as numerous university events.
You will be assessed by coursework, plus three externally assessed examinations and one externally assessed controlled assessment, across two years.
This qualification can lead to a vast range of careers, and you can advance to employment or university.
