WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This course is for school leavers who want to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of clinical healthcare support settings and in health and adult care environments.

FORMAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You must be 16 years old or over, and have achieved Level 1, if you are progressing.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?

The course covers a wide range of areas including dementia awareness, mental health and well-being, supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and healthcare procedures.
You will also cover knowledge and skills required for the Adult Care Worker and Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship standards.

You will study mandatory units and optional units. Optional units allow you to choose from a variety of areas to tailor the qualification to your needs and interests, and to reflect the context of your work.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

All units are internally assessed. You will produce a portfolio of evidence from work place practice for individual units.
Methods of assessment could include:
• direct observation by assessor
• witness evidence
• professional discussion
• reflection on own practice in real work environments
• written assignments
• your own work products
Grading is Achieved or Not Achieved.

WHERE CAN I GO NEXT?

You can enter either the adult care or health workforces, as the course content is relevant to a variety of roles, including:
• adult care worker
• healthcare assistant/support worker
• personal assistant.

This qualification also serves as a foundation for learners who want to progress to a Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification or an appropriate apprenticeship.
