You must hold a Level 2 qualification in Hairdressing. You’ll take part in a group interview, where you’ll be able to ask questions after the course has been discussed. This is followed by a one to one interview. If you meet the course requirements you’ll be offered a conditional place, as you’ll need to do a trade test and places will be offered based on the results.
Units on the course cover:
• Health and Safety in the Salon
• Setting and Dressing Services
• Blow-drying and Finishing Services
• Haircutting Services
• Competition Hair
• Colour Correction and Hair Colouring Services
A minimum of 30 hours’ work experience is compulsory for all 16 to 18 year-olds as part of the main programme.
There are many opportunities to participate in trips to places such as Harry Potter World, Drayton Manor, and Blackpool NHF Hair and Beauty competitions.
You will be assessed through a service portfolio (coalition of learner’s work throughout the course), graded practical exams, two online exams, and a synoptic exam. Practical elements of the course will be assessed in our state-of-the-art salons on the fifth floor within the college.
Upon completing this qualification you may be able to progress to the Assessors A1/A2 award, or a Certificate in Education. You could also go on to work in a hair salon or spa.
