The Certificate in Dental Sedation Nursing is a qualification suitable for dental nurses who assist in the surgery during routine conscious sedation.

To undertake the qualification you must:
a) be registered with the General Dental Council
b) have the support of your employing dentist/seditionist to act as supervisor and validate the workplace activities for the Record of Experience.
The course covers knowledge modules relating to Conscious Sedation in Dental Practice, Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Equipment and Medico-Legal.
Nurses are required to produce a Record of Experience which includes modules on Preparation of the Environment and Patient, Case Studies, Recovery, Medico-Legal, Medical Emergencies and Log Sheets of Practical Experience and Recovery.
Teaching time will be 30 hours at college or at facilities in the local area.
Two written papers must be completed within 90 minutes. The oral exam lasts 20 minutes and is conducted by two examiners. The candidate will also be expected to carry out three practical tasks.
