This course is suitable for applicants who want to gain all-round construction skills. It will appeal to people who enjoy more practical activities and working with their hands. The course can be quite physically demanding, but it is an ideal start for people wishing to gain employment in the construction industry.

There are no formal entry qualifications, but all applicants will be interviewed and take an initial assessment. You will also complete a dexterity test on one of our taster days. You’ll see what the course is like and whether it’s a good match for you.
You will be studying towards a City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Construction, a nationally-recognised qualification that is a great starting point for anyone wanting a career in the construction and building industry.
This course consists of the basics in the construction crafts, including Bricklaying, Boarding and Plastering, and Tiling.
We offer a residential week and various activity days, in addition to College-wide trips, sports and visits.
For the theory that you need to learn, you will complete multiple-choice tests as you progress and an online test at the end. You will be required to complete a practical assignment when you reach the end of your training.
We run a range of Level 2 courses that will develop your skills in Carpentry, Plastering, Painting & Decorating, Tiling or Plumbing, or you could progress on to a Level 2 apprenticeship if you feel ready for the world of work.
