GCSE English and Maths is an advantage, but you must hold a Level 2 qualification in Beauty Therapy. You’ll take part in a group interview, where you’ll be able to ask questions after the course has been discussed. This is followed by a one to one interview. If you meet the course requirements you’ll be offered a place, where possible, on the same day. Alternatively, if you do not meet the course requirements, you'll be advised on other courses that are available.
Units on the course cover:
• Health and safety
• Client care and consultation
• History and origins of massage therapies
• Indian head massage
• Swedish massage
• Stone therapy
• Anatomy and Physiology for the face and body systems
• Promote and sell products and services
• Contribute to the effective running of a business
A minimum of 30 hours’ work experience is compulsory for all 16 to 18 year-olds as part of the main programme. Adult learners also have the opportunity to participate in work experience but it is not mandatory.
There are many opportunities to participate in trips to places such as Harry Potter World, Drayton Manor, and Blackpool NHF Hair and Beauty competitions.
Practical elements of the course will be assessed in our state-of-the-art salons on the fifth floor within the college. You will be assessed on a service portfolio (coalition of learner’s work throughout the course). Practical exams make up 50% of the grade for each unit studied. There are two exams that are completed online with the opportunity to retake a second time if required. All exams are marked externally by the awarding body and make up 30% of the grade. A practical synoptic exam equates to 20% of the final grade which will be Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction *.
Upon completing this qualification you may be able to progress to the Assessors A1/A2 award, or a Certificate in Education. You could also work in a beauty salon or spa.
