You will need to have GCSE Grade 3 or above in English and Maths. You must have achieved a Level 2 qualification in Beauty Therapy or Nails.
Units on the course cover:
• Health and safety
• Client care and consultation
• History and origins of massage therapies
• Indian head massage
• Swedish massage
• Stone therapy
• Anatomy and Physiology for the face and body systems
• Promote and sell products and services
• Contribute to the effective running of a business
A minimum of 30 hours’ work experience is compulsory for all 16 to 18 year-olds as part of the main programme. Adult learners also have the opportunity to participate in work experience but it is not mandatory.
There are many opportunities to participate in trips to places such as Harry Potter World, Drayton Manor, and Blackpool NHF Hair and Beauty competitions.
Practical elements of the course will be assessed in our state-of-the-art salons on the fifth floor within the college. Practically you will be assessed based on individual performance throughout the course to a level of competency which consists of formative and summative assessments. Theory knowledge is assessed via multiple choice online exams and/or assignments and work packs. All exams are marked externally by the awarding body, and your final grade will be a Pass.
You can progress to Level 4 Salon Management at University, or a Level 4 TAQA Assessors Award. You could also progress to a Level 2 Nails or Level 2 Hairdressing qualification, or upskill by studying one of our specialised short courses. Possible career opportunities include: specialised beautician in salons, self-employed mobile beauty business, working on cruise liners or in the film and media industry, hair and beauty sales rep, or working for training providers.
