This is a NEW three-week fast-track course with two start dates: Monday 18 January or Monday 22 February. The qualification provides an introduction for those new to teaching and training or those wishing to teach or train. It is designed as a qualification, which will equip a wide range of teachers and facilitators with the basics they need to teach. It does not entitle candidates to teach in the sector, but it is an entry qualification which allows progression to the Certificate in Education and Training and/or the Diploma in Education and Training. The qualification is suitable for those who work or want to work as: • Teachers in the further education and skills sector, including adult and community education, work-based learning and the voluntary sector, provided they are qualified/experienced in the subject they intend to teach. • Technicians and support staff in further and adult education. • Training personnel in commerce, industry, the public sector, the uniformed services or HM Forces.
You must have a Level 2 or 3 qualification in the area you wish to teach/train, and a good level of written and spoken English must be demonstrated at interview.

The qualification is designed to enable candidates to:
• Understand the role and responsibilities of a teacher and the relationship between different professionals in education and training
• Understand and use inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training.
• Understand assessment in education and training.
The course is assignment based and covers:
• the roles and responsibilities of a teacher
• the role of assessment within teaching and training
• how to create a lesson and write a lesson plan
The Award comprises three units, listed above, with a total value of 12 credits. It will consist of 48 contact and 48 non-contact hours. The course will be delivered over three days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9.30am - 2.30pm) for three weeks.
Assessment methods include written work and delivery of a micro-teach.
This qualification allows progression to the Certificate in Education and Training or the Certificate in Education/Professional Graduate Certificate in Education.
