Artistic hair and beauty students from Sandwell College are hoping to strike gold for a third time in the World Skills regional heat.

Hairdressing student Rhian Johnson and apprentice Georgina Tyler have qualified, along with nail technicians Courtney Hipkins and Rochelle Blake, for the 2015 contest.

Nail artists Kayleigh Stone and Sariah Jones both took the top spot in World Skills regional finals, before going on to win bronze medals in the national finals.

Kayleigh won gold in the regional World Skills final for her nail art designs based on the Toy Story 3 film characters, using acrylic gel which she moulded into intricate designs, and bronze in the national final for her 101 Dalmatians-inspired art.

Sariah took inspiration from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which follows the young magician’s second year at Hogwarts, to win her bronze medal.

Kerry Buckley secured fourth place in the UK competition while Aaleyah Black took regional silver for her nail art.

And last year hairdresser Claire Tidman also competed in the 2014 regional live heat.
