Four GCSEs at grade D and above, including English, or successful completion of the Level 1 Diploma or equivalent.
This is a practical course, equivalent to four GCSEs and will give you strong foundations for designing and operating lighting and sound, and managing and producing shows. During the course you will design, operate and stage-manage fashion shows, dance performances and theatre shows.
The course recognises the technical skills, knowledge and understanding needed to work within the Performing Arts/Entertainment industry. Examples of units you may study on the course include: Production Skills, Sound for Performance, Lighting for Performance and Stage Management.
As well as classroom-based learning there are many opportunities for students to gain practical experience in a wide range of college and touring productions, such as pantomimes, dance shows and straight plays.
Functional Skills will also form an important part of your course. They are the skills we use in all aspects of our study, work and everyday life. When you start the course, your tutor will discuss which Functional Skills are the most appropriate for you.
Students have opportunities to see professional performances in the West End as well as locally. You also have an opportunity to engage with community and local authority organisations.
You will be assessed through a mixture of coursework and practical work. Learning methods include: practical workshops; theatre productions; private study; tutorials; theatre visits and class work.
You can progress to the Level 3 Technical Theatre BTEC National Extended Diploma in Performing Arts.
