You will need 2 GCSEs at grade D or above, plus a positive attitude, commitment and self-motivation. The course is designed for school leavers who are able to work at a level that is equivalent to GCSE grades D-F. All learners will be required to complete an initial assessment prior to the formal interview.
A police check will be required as you will be expected to successfully complete a period of vocational experience in an appropriate health and social care setting. Funding may be available for the CRB dependent on individual circumstances.
Modules will include personal care, the role of the carer at mealtimes, and health needs. Personal skills development and functional skills are also a major feature of this programme and are compulsory.
Enrichment classes form an important part of the course and these include trips and visits, fundraising activities and the opportunity to gain extra qualifications in creative crafts and drugs awareness.
There are no examinations on this programme as all your work is assessed by coursework which comprises of written work, presentations, role play and practical observations.
Students who successfully complete their units may be given the opportunity to progress to a Level 2 Diploma course in Health and Social Care or Childcare. Whichever route you choose you will be given help and support from your tutor.
