Course summary

This Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Practice - Dance course is aimed at students who want to continue their learning via the creative world of Dance. The nature of the course demands total commitment and high levels of energy from students. Full-scale productions are staged. This two-year full-time course is the equivalent of 3 A Levels and offers the opportunity to cover the practical and theoretical areas of dance. If you are passionate about the arts and enjoy dance, performing and music, this could be the course for you.

Course requirements

You’ll need four GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above, including English, and/or a Level 2 qualification or equivalent.

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Practice - Dance course recognises the skills, knowledge and understanding of the Performing Arts sector.

You should also enjoy working closely with other students in groups as well as on your own initiative, be willing to experiment and explore new topics, and have a passion for performance.

  • Performing to an Audience
  • Ballet
  • Jazz Dance
  • Contemporary Dance
  • Urban Dance

Students have opportunities to see professional performances in the West End as well as locally.

You also have the opportunity to engage with the community and local authority organisations and take part in projects/ workshops with Dance Xchange and Wolverhampton University.

Students are taken to the MOVE IT show each year in London to participate in dance workshops, visit Higher Education representatives and discover professional development within the dance industry.

We are proud to be the FE base of the Black Country Dance Hub and ME Dance Company.

You will be assessed through a mixture of coursework, practical work and assessment.

Learning methods include practical dance technique workshops, dance performances, private study, tutorials, theatre visits and theory work.

Many students have university or dance school as a target at the end of their studies.

Recent Performing Arts students have gone on to degree-level courses across the country, including at Urdang Academy, University of East London and MADD.
