If you have a strong interest in music or singing and have some previous experience, this could be the course for you. It is an excellent starting point for those who have ambitions of pursuing careers within the Music Industry or Arts Sector, and offers you the opportunity to cover the practical as well as the theoretical areas of Music Performance.
You will need four GCSEs at grade D and above, including English, or successful completion of the Level 1 Diploma or equivalent. Equipment will be provided but you may wish to invest in your own equipment in the future, so funding is available for families on low income.
At Level 2, you will learn practical music skills from a wide variety of different types of contemporary music. You will have the chance to work with professionals from the music industry and perform in our purpose-built theatre and other local venues. Units include Music Composition, Performance Rehearsal and Live Music Performance, Music Sequencing and Production.
Functional Skills will also form an important part of your course. They are the skills we use in all aspects of our study, work and everyday life. When you start the course, your tutor will discuss which Functional Skills are the most appropriate for you.
Students have opportunities to see professional music performances, go behind the scenes and visit industry specialists. You also have opportunities to engage with community and local authority organisations and professional musicians.
You will be assessed through a mixture of coursework, practical work and examination. Learning methods include practical workshops, music performances, private study, tutorials, visits and class work.
You can move on to the Level 3 Diploma in Contemporary Music Performance or into the industry.
