For when you’re not studying we offer a massive range of activities which are not only good fun, but help you make new friends, develop new skills and add to your CV and university applications. There are trips and visits to bring your studies to life, and you can get involved in sport, the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, debating and so much more!
HIT THE TARGET
A hat-trick of players from the college have toured with the national football team. Ashlee Brown played for England Colleges in Estonia, making her the third Sandwell student in three years to play for their country.
Students have represented the region in table tennis and swimming championships, winning bronze for Team WM in the 50m backstroke, and taking silver in the BCS National Plate Volleyball Final.
Paris, London, Clothes Show Live, Autosport, Premiership stadiums or helping poverty-stricken orphans in Goa: our students’ experiences take them all over the world. Freshers’ fayres, university fayres and career insider talks from industry experts will also take you far. They could see you landing a place at a top drama or dance school, like our performing arts students who successfully auditioned to secure their places at ALRA, Guildhall and Urdang Academy.
Engineering students come up with futuristic train carriage concepts and work on the world’s first electronic kit car at BCU, while construction students take part in the Black Country Skills Show Experience and SkillBuild competitions. Our nail artists are gold medallists in the World Skills regional finals for the second year running. From Wear a Hat to Wear it Pink – enterprising students have raised thousands from charity events, selling handmade hats to ruby poppies and pumpkin carving for Halloween.
FAITH AND CONTEMPLATION
Our Multi-faith and Quiet Contemplation rooms are quiet spaces for people to sit and contemplate, to pray, to take a few moments to de-stress or just have a think about things.
Sandwell College Chaplaincy is available for the pastoral care of all members of the college community, regardless of their faith or beliefs. It aims to provide care and support where spiritual needs arise. Our Christian, Islamic and Sikh chaplains provide someone to talk to when you need a confidential ear, someone who can support you in emotional or spiritual issues, and – of course – someone to explore your faith with.
