Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for trainee dental nurses working in practices, in the community or in hospitals.
The Advanced Apprenticeship is a high quality work-based learning programme for young people who wish to develop their prospects and careers.
Formal Entry Requirements
You will need to have at least GCSE grades A – C in English and Maths. Entry is subject to a satisfactory interview and college assessment.
What does the course involve?
This is a 12-15 month programme. You will attend college one day per week for six months. The course includes completion of a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), which is assessed in the workplace, and successful achievement of the Level 3 Award in Dental Nursing.
You will gain practical experience, a key skills qualification and a technical certificate. This Advanced Apprenticeship is funded for 16-18 year-olds and co-funded with employers for 19+ learners.
To do well on an Apprenticeship you will need to be focused on the career you want to pursue. You will also need to demonstrate commitment and be prepared to work hard.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment will be through a combination of coursework and portfolio building, both in college and within the workplace. External examinations will cover Key Skills and the technical certificate. Your progress on the course will be regularly monitored through individual tutorials. The use of e-portfolios allows candidates regular contact with their assessor.
Where can I go next?
Successful completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship can lead to a Level 4 programme in Management, Radiography or Oral Health Promotion, or the opportunity to progress to a Foundation Degree.
