Who is this course for?
This one-year course is designed for school leavers, professionals, unemployed people with ambitions to work in the beauty industry, or people with a general interest in beauty.

You will need to attend an interview and assessment prior to being accepted on the course.
What does the course involve?
The course includes theory, anatomy and physiology sessions, and practical skills carried out in a realistic working environment. Units covered include health and safety, developing selling techniques, reception duties, manicure, pedicure, photographic make-up, facial treatments including massage, eyelash and brow treatments including eyelash extensions, waxing and hair removal.
A wide spectrum of resources and materials are used for teaching and learning.
Work experience is an essential element of the programme carried out over a period of five days. All staff are highly qualified, friendly, supportive and maintain a high standard of professionalism.
A range of internal and external educational activities are offered throughout the programme of study. In addition learners are encouraged to participate in social activities and competitions.
Trips may be subsidised via the student union or welfare department, depending on funding available and individual status.
How will I be assessed?
Individual performance will be assessed through written assessments, word processed assignments, oral questioning and practical skills. Teaching and learning materials are accessible on the Virtual College site, which can be accessed from home.
Where can I go next?
Upon successful achievement of the Beauty NVQ Level 2 Diploma you will have the opportunity to progress to NVQ Level 3. Possible careers include spa therapy, beauty therapy, worldwide travel working on board cruise liners, beauty sales or teaching in the Further and Higher Education sectors.
