Vote for your favourite photo in Queens Square exhibition

Visitors to Queens Square Shopping Centre are being invited to cast a critical eye over a photography exhibition by talented Central Campus students, and vote for the shot which best captures the heart of West Bromwich.

The exhibition opens today (Friday 15 June) and closes on Friday 29 June 2012, giving aspiring critics two weeks to vote for their favourite.

The Central Campus gallery is located in the former River Island retail unit on the right-hand side as you enter the Queens Square shopping centre from the High Street. Opening times are from 10am to 4.30pm each day.

“We’re looking for the shot which shoppers feel best captures the heart of West Bromwich,” said Melvin Glasby, Queens Square’s centre manager.
“The community comes together at Queens Square – young and old from many different occupational and cultural backgrounds, and we want a shot that means something for everyone.
“The winner will be awarded the inaugural Queens Square Photography Trophy as we want to record the centre as it is now, before we give it a facelift, which will represent a new beginning for the 40-year old centre,” said Melvin.

David Waldron, who leads the photography curriculum at Sandwell College, said: “We live in a very visual culture these days.  I first worked as a Saturday boy at Tesco in Queens Square to afford my first camera.  "Students’ confidence is really boosted when a stranger says how much they love their work.  Some of their work is really first rate – it would look at home in a national gallery.”

The exhibition will also feature shots of famous West Bromwich Albion footballers.
Come and have your say in who should win the Queens Square Photography Trophy!
