Hairdressing NVQ Level 3
Who is this course for?
This one-year course is designed for candidates who hold a Hairdressing NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
Formal Entry Requirements
Candidates must hold an NVQ Level 2 or equivalent and 5 GCSEs at Grade D or above, preferably including English and Maths. Previous experience will be taken into account. You will also need to attend an interview and trade test prior to being accepted on the course.
What does the course involve?
The majority of training takes place in the Bliss Graduate Salon where learners will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of clients and will conduct salon services to a professional standard. Nine units will be studied, including creatively cut hair, creatively styled and dressed hair and creatively coloured hair.
All learners will participate in the annual hair show to demonstrate the skills that they have learned during the year. Selected learners will be encouraged to enter regional and national competitions including World Skills through our gifted and talented programme.
All learners are allocated to a personal tutor who will set targets, track progress and offer support throughout the course.
Trips are organised throughout the year to various exhibitions and events, including Blackpool Winter Gardens college hairdressing competition, Wella Extrend Paris and local theme parks such as Drayton Manor. Trips may be subsidised via the Students' Union or welfare department, depending on funding available and individual status.
How will I be assessed?
All practical work is assessed in our professional training salons; you will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence including photography of your work, written projects and online quizzes.
Where can I go next?
Progression from this course is the A1/A2 Assessors award, an Education and Teaching qualification or a Higher Education course such as Salon Management or Hair and Media Make-up. You could also apply for work as a senior stylist, work as a freelance stylist.
