Who is this course for?

The 90 Credit Diploma in Business (equivalent to 11/2 A levels) allows progression on to the Extended Diploma in Business Level 3, an ideal programme for school leavers who wish to gain the equivalent of 3 A levels. It is a practical, two-year work related course, focusing on the development of a range of specialist business skills.

Formal Entry Requirements

Applicants should have at least one of the following:
  • a BTEC First Diploma in a related subject,
  • at least 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C GCSE
  • English and Maths Minimum Grade C or equivalent

What does the course involve?

It is made up of 9 units in the first year to gain the 90 Credit Diploma and a further 9 in the second year to gain the Extended Diploma. You will study four mandatory core units that everyone takes, and 14 specialist units, so you can study particular areas in more depth. The four core units are: The Business Environment, Business Resources, Introduction to Marketing, and Business Communication. You then study further specialist units that offer a sound underpinning knowledge in business practices.

Enrichment activities

There are various trips and activities throughout the programme e.g. paintballing and Alton Towers. UCAS workshops focus on choosing the right university course, writing personal statements, completing UCAS applications and student finance. We also organise trips to various universities and Higher Education conventions.

How will I be assessed?

All units are assessed and graded using business-related assessment methods and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.

Where can I go next?

This course awards UCAS points, which allow you to apply to Higher Education (university). In addition, Sandwell College offers the Higher National Diploma (HND) and Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Business and in association with the University of Wolverhampton the Foundation Degree in Business Management. The qualification also helps students develop their employability skills, leading to business career opportunities.
