Who is this course for?
The Apprenticeship is ideal for those who intend to pursue a career in Sustainable Resource Management, or are already working in this area with no formal qualifications. The course equips apprentices with the training and knowledge needed to work in a Waste Management role.
What does the course involve?
This is a one-year course where apprentices will attend college or a work-based training facility, for a maximum of one day per week over a set period, to fit in with operational demands. This competency-based QCF qualification covers many job roles within the recycling and waste management industry. Level 2 qualifications are suitable for technicians, while Level 3 qualifications are suitable for supervisory roles. All include mandatory and optional units (competency element).
Apprentices will study:
- A Level 2/3 Certificate in Principles of Sustainable Resource/Waste Management with mandatory and optional units (Technical Certificate – knowledge based)
- Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS)
- Employment Rights & Responsibilities (ERR)
- Key Skills in Communication & Application of Number, or Functional Skills in English and Mathematics
How will I be assessed?
You will complete coursework and build up a portfolio, both in college and at your workplace. External examinations will cover the Key Skills and Technical Certificate. Your progress on the course will be regularly assessed through individual tutorials.
Where can I go next?
You will be able to proceed to further WAMITAB qualifications including a Level 4 (Certificate of Technical Competence), and from there you could go on to complete courses provided by universities such as Middlesex.
