Who is this course for?

This part-time evening course suits 16 – 18 year-olds or adults, who are considering entering the building industry and wish to learn the basic skills of plastering.

Formal Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but you will need to attend an interview and initial assessment. You will also be required to produce evidence of past or present qualifications together with your school report.

What does the course involve?

The course is made up of six units which include Conforming to Safety in the Workplace; Moving and Handling Resources in the Workplace; Positioning and Securing Plasterwork Resources in the Workplace; Preparing and Mixing Plastering Materials in the Workplace; Preparing Background Surfaces for Plasterwork in the Workplace; Producing Plasterwork Components from Open Flood Moulds in the Workplace. You will cover basic plastering skills and will also study key skills to support your development.

Enrichment activities

We offer a residential week and various activity days, in addition to College-wide trips, sports and visits.

How will I be assessed?

Assessments are both practical and theoretical for each unit in your work-based evidence book.  Students also meet regularly with tutors to help plan studies and discuss progress.

Where can I go next?

A high number of Level 1 Plastering students successfully progress onto the Level 2 Diploma and show skills that are far superior to other providers offering the same programme. A good number of Level 1 learners have started their own successful businesses via the Princes Trust or have fast-tracked on to an NVQ apprenticeship with local employers.
