At Sandwell College, we warmly welcome overseas students - provided the criteria is met. As an International Student, you are a valued member of our student community. Through our comprehensive Welfare Service, we aim to provide you with a high level of support throughout your time with us. Moving away from home can be a daunting experience and we're here to help. Finding yourself around in an unfamiliar environment, making new friends, opening bank accounts and joining societies where you can meet like-minded people. It's all part of the experience.
Wilson Makalande is an overseas student at Sandwell College. He arrived from his native Malawi in Central Africa in 2003 and enrolled on the two-year full-time Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) course. Following his graduation in June this year, he hopes to return to Malawi armed with his specialist diploma. He will proudly be able to use the letters MCIPS - Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply - after his name.
Wilson, aged 31, is one of just four overseas students of a total 160 on the CIPS course taught by course manager Malcolm Harrison. "He's done exceptionally well as an overseas student here in the UK. He made some really good friends and was a valued member in the classroom. Well done", said Mr Harrison.
"I owe it to Malcolm. The course was very tough, but challenging and Malcolm has been an outstanding guide and mentor and I'm really grateful to him."
Wilson, whilst at college, has lived in Tividale and worked as an attendant at a local petrol station to balance his budget. "I've really enjoyed my time here at Sandwell College and I will miss it," said Wilson.
